I think I will make some attempt to do these every Friday, since the weekend seems a good time to rec books :3 Did not get as many read this week as I wanted, but it’s not like they’re going anywhere :3 And next week there are even more shinies!
I swear I’m going to find a way to expense these bastards.
Onward!
Twenty-two-year-old barman Nathan is always the odd one out. It’s tough to get a date when his love of loud music, tattoos, and zombie paraphernalia usually sends potential candidates running for the hills. Trying to find anyone who wants to spend time with him, let alone stay in and watch trashy horror movies, has always been a problem.
Then, on his day off, Nathan does a friend a favor by covering a shift at a pub, and in walks a handsome stranger who shares his love of horror. It could be a match made in B-movie heaven, and Nathan is determined to pursue this new acquaintance, but—zombies aside—has Nathan got the guts to go on a real date?
This book was awesome ^__^ It was a lot of fun to read, and just a straight up tale about a bar tender. No murders, stalkers, or other extraneous things. The characters are awesome, the dialogue fantastic, and the author has a legit knack for humor :3 Definitely my top favorite of this batch, and an all around favorite.
Shipwrecked on a strange shore, Érard is intent on completing his quest and winning the kingdom.
Transformed before birth into an animal by his mother’s ill-fated contact with fairy magic and left for dead, Cat has been raised by the fairies with the anticipation that one day his prince would come. When his prince does finally arrive, half drowned and lost, Cat fears abandonment once more, and allows Érard to believe that he is female.
Érard leaves to win back the title to his own kingdom, but returns, drawn back by friendship and a love that the prince doesn’t entirely understand. Cat begins to realize that he does not wish to live without his prince. But, will Érard accept and love him for who he truly is?
Sometimes, compassion can solve what swords cannot, and love does truly conquer all.
I love my fairytales, as you might have noticed :3 :3 :3 This one was a beautiful retelling of an old favorite ^__^ The tone/style was my favorite, that whole fairytale vibe is trickier to nail than one might think and the author nailed it perfectly. Characters were lovely, and it’s not a fairytale that crops up often in rewrites so it was fun to see :3
Three more under the cut :3
Vampire Daniel Valente struggles to live on his own, now that his master, Titus Antonius Calidus, has found eternal love with another. Carrying mental and emotional scars, he lives in loneliness and feels as though he’s lost who he once was. Ryunosuke Kimura has known Daniel for hundreds of years, and loved him for many of them. Even though he believes Titus is the only one Daniel wants to give his heart to, when he hears Daniel needs his support, he rushes to be with him. With Ryu at his side, Daniel’s confidence returns, and with it, he sees the enduring love Ryu has always had for him. As they grow closer, new threats from old enemies arise, and if Daniel and Ryunosuke are to spend eternity together, they must first defeat the past.
This one is a sequel to Natural Instincts, and was just as much fun. I usually avoid books with anything Japanese like the plague, because when people get shit wrong it throws me out of the story in a bad way. But nothing in this one made me super twitchy, and I really really liked the central chars when they showed up in the first book. I love brats like Daniel, and it makes me stupid happy when someone can write a character like that: keep him a brat while showing he’s not all brat. I am very eager to see which chars are going to star in the next one 😀
Tooth and Claw, Book 1
After pleading his case to his wolf clan’s Elders, Levi is granted the right to bond with Ian, his male human lover, on one condition: they must spend one year apart. Then Levi must use only their spiritual connection to find Ian, or the deal is off.
Tracking down his lover is easy, but Levi isn’t prepared for the changed man he finds.
The agony of separation was too much for Ian. In a moment of weakness, he reached out—to a vampire. Now he’s a vampire himself, and Levi’s devastation—and rejection—is like a stake to his heart. But it’s nothing compared to the fury of the clan that wants Ian brought to justice for desecrating their most sacred ritual.
Afraid for Ian’s safety, Levi puts the pain aside and races to get to Ian first, but he faces unexpected competition: Darius, Ian’s maker. When they come together, all hell breaks loose, Ian is on the run…and the only way Levi and Darius can save the man they love is work together.
If they don’t kill each other first.
This was an interesting read. I wasn’t sure of it, because I’m really not a fan of the cheating thing, but I took a chance because sometimes that pays off. It did with this one; all told, the author handled everything well and pulled it all together. I really liked the way the book shows the dangers of blindly following tradition, and how trying to please everyone never really works. A word of warning, though: Book one really does mean book one, and the end of this one is rather heartbreaking. Honestly I give the author full props on that, because I think most authors would have opted for some sort of rushed, wedged in there, more conclusive happy end. Am very much looking forward to the next one.
That is all for now, though I have handful of others to list at some point ^___^ Everyone, enjoy your weekend!
